Tennis anyone? How many times you feel like slamming your racquet on the ground or just feel so frustrated with your game that you won't even enjoy your time out there? Well, that is very common and tons of things can be leading up to a bad tennis day.
For this article, I am not getting into the technicality of strokes, grips, footwork, point-of-contact, emotional stress, etc., sometimes just a bad day at work can lead you to a poor performance. Anyhow to make an easy quick fix here is an idea:
Next time you are going to play tennis, prior to warm up commit yourself to try your best to keep the ball in play using mirror shot strategy during those frustration or anger moments. Maybe you can use for a few points to get your confidence back, maybe one, two games or even whole set and match if needed.
Translating that in an easy way to understand: if your opponent hits cross-court you return cross-court back. If he/she hits down the middle you return right down the middle. If push the ball to you, you push the ball back. If slice comes at you, you slice that ball too. If he/she hits hard, you just use his/her pace to hit the ball back at the same speed and direction.
I guarantee You will be making way less unforced errors and might get tons of free points as well.
Why? Because you are giving all responsibility to your opponent to change directions of the shot, taking risks, being offensive to finish off the point. If other player is on a good day, fine! The player beats you, but you are not the one beating yourself up which is the whole point of this article right?
The only change I recommend with this strategy is that when your opponent goes down-the-line, then you would aim back in the middle or cross-court this way you will NOT be out of position for next shot. Otherwise, you will be doing lots of running to cover the whole court my friend.
Is it boring? Honestly for me, yes, Sometimes necessary? Yes, however, you will be surprised by how many more shots you can actually play back and points won as well Try out this strategy and let me know how it goes. Again, hold it on your killer instinct and play easy "boring" but sometimes effective tennis. It will definitely increase your chances. Good Luck! Stay on your toes. Peace!
